Medical Cards

Posted on 30. Jul, 2009 by chama andrew in Reform Ideas

My husband is a general dentist and has been taking public aid for as long as he has been a dentist, 26 years, and it seems that they need to do credit checks on people before they get their medical card. We have seen so many patients that drive up in their brand new Hummers and dress in name brand clothing and posess a medical card. I strongly believe that ALL children should have healthcare but when you see their decked out parents and they too are on the medical card, it really gets us upset. How can they get the medical card and some single parents cannot, it just doesn’t seem fair. They should get credit checks and get copies of their bills to justify them getting the medical card, there are way too many people cheating others that really do need it. They also should regulate how LONG people keep the medical card. They should set a time limit and after it has expired or going to then they should be required to give all bills and ge t another credit check so whatever information they give is accurate with their credit report. It seems that people are rewarded on being unemployed and living off of us hardworking americans, it is just not right. There is a time limit for a person to get unemployment, there should be for having the medical card as well. We should promote getting a job instead of promoting getting help from our government especially when it is broke.

There should be a timeframe for every welfare program.

Great headline. If your cookie has a bite-sized action and your reader completes the action, I think two things happen. Their self-confidence goes up (which feels good) and their trust in you increases.

I beleive a visit to the hospital for someone on a medical card should be an emergency, I get tired of seeing people in the emergency for a earache, rash, physical, common cold and such! I have to make an appointment with a dr when I have these common sicknesses because I cannot afford to run to the emergency room like the people with a medical card. People going to the emergency room for anything that is not a emergency and can be treated by a dr. should be turned away and told to make a appointment with a physician. A medical card is not a free pass to the emergency room!!!! It costs everyone money and prevents the people truley needing to be there from getting immediate treatment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This needs to be stopped and stopped NOW!!

I agree completely! Triage nurses at most emergency rooms screen patients before they are admitted to the ER for their symptoms and medical history. Based on the information gathered by the triage nurse the physician on duty could make a determination as to whether or not the patient should be seen in the emergency room.

true it should be an a emergency but when its a baby or a small child you never know what it is and dr. take forever to get you in to see them…
