I would say the state could save lots of money by investigate how many state and university employees have “state of the art” fancy cell phones paid for by state funds. I know there are people carrying around fancy blackberries because it is a symbol of their status and they don’t need or use the email or internet functions.
There are also state employees who carry cell phones that have no need for it. Examin who really needs to be reached 24/7 and issue job appropriate phones only to those personnel. By job appropriate, I mean someone who is on call and needs to get an email that a computer system failed in the main compute room might need a high end phone whereas someone emloyed in human resources would have no need for a cell phone at all.
blackberries cost over $100/month per employee. That’s a lot of wasted money.
