How about changing how politicians get raises? I think it is bogus that politicians vote for thier own pay raises! Even during bad economies when most companies are down sizing. In addition the government is not operating on a BALANCED budget. The people should have some say in pay raises for politicians.

cut government sponsored pension programs…

We need to suspend government guaranteed retirement pensions for all new hired employees effective immediately. Private busiensses realized more than 20 years ago they could no longer guarantee pensions to employees, hence the emergence of 401(K) plans. The government needs to do the same, immediately.
